William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition in USA, 2017 Scholarship Positions 2017 2018

The William Faulkner – William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition is sponsored yearly by The Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society, Inc, a non-profit literary and academic group. The 2017 deadline is May 1. Winners can be formally offered on the annual assembly of the Society, Faulkner for All, throughout Words & Music, A Literary Feast in New Orleans, happening this 12 months December 6-10, 2017.

A listing of manuscripts which have been designated finalists and semi-finalists can be posted on the web site on or about August 1, 2017.  Winners can be notified on September 25th, William Faulkner’s birthday, leaving loads of time for winners to make plans to be current to obtain their awards.

The competitors is for beforehand unpublished work solely. Entries are accepted now in eight classes (see beneath): Novel, Novella, book-length Narrative Non-Fiction, Novel-in-Progress, Short Story, Essay, Poetry, and Short Story by a High School Student. Divisions of the Competition

Category One – Novel/Book Length Fiction – Prize: $7,500

Category Three – Novella – Prize: $1,500.00

The Novella Prize is funded yearly by personal donors. Requirements: a brief work of unique fiction, beforehand unpublished. $35 entry price. Works of fiction restricted to 25,000 phrases can be accepted in the novella class.

Category Four – Short Story – Prize: $1,500

The Short Story Prize is funded by personal foundations and people. Requirements: a brief work of fiction of lower than 10,000 phrases. $35 entry price.

Category Five – Novel-in-Progress – Prize: $1,500

This award, created and initially funded by Edgar winner Julie Smith in reminiscence of the late Evans Harrington Grant, a inventive writing professor at the University of Mississippi, is now funded by different personal people. The Marble Faun Prize for Poetry, created by Adelaide Wisdom Benjamin, is now funded yearly by New Orleanian David Speights in reminiscence of his late spouse, Marti Speights, who was a member of the Faulkner Society’s Advisory Council. Requirements: single poem of no more than 750 phrases. $25 entry price.

Category Eight – Short Story by a High School Student
Prize, $750; Sponsoring Teacher, $250

A prize of $250 is awarded to the sponsoring trainer. The Hartwig Moss Prize is funded yearly by Mrs. Hartwig Moss, III, and her kids in reminiscence of her husband. Requirements: unique work of fiction of lower than 5,000 phrases. Entries will need to have sponsoring trainer or faculty, ideally each. $10 entry price to be paid by faculty or, in case of home-schooled college students, by trainer.

Important! General Guidelines for All Categories

The total normal guideline is “ready for publication” with minor modifying. The Society reserves the proper to withhold award of a prize in any class in which there aren’t any entries deemed “ready for publication” by the judges.

Who Can Enter?

The William Faulkner – William Wisdom Competition is open to all writers wherever working in the English language. Although international residents are welcome to enter the competitors, transportation to and from areas outdoors the continental United States just isn’t paid for winners by the Society.
